I have been quite busy and want to let you know about some fun projects that are in progress.
1. Being married and living in community: This has been the biggest change over the last year and a half as you can imagine! My wife and I moved to Memphis, TN to live in an inner city neighborhood. After working at an inner city summer camp last Summer, we felt some good connections forming and decided to pursue those relationships. A big part of that has been the decision to locate our new marriage in community. We live in a house with another married couple and a single brother. Family dinners on Monday nights, Family prayer Thursday mornings - we even have a family garden and honeybees in the back! The Fall was a very challenging time for our marriage and our close friends were a key part in getting us through it.
2. Blogging more regularly: I'm enjoying writing more regularly. I keep a blog on my website: www.matthewclark.net
3. Recording and Producing: After leading worship for nearly ten years straight at either campus ministries or on staff at a couple of churches, I'm taking a break. I'd been recording on the side for a long time, so I decided to try it full time for a season. It's been fun! I made a friend who shares his recording studio (www.avowalmusic.com) with me and I've been working on recording projects for other people since September last year.
4. Recording Projects:
Matt King (www.mattkingmusic.webs.com) - Matt is a worship leader in Southaven, MS. I produced and recorded his first full length album in the Fall.
Element Youth Worship Band (www.germantownstudents.org) - These students were a blast to work with! They played all the instruments and recorded six songs on location in a 100 year old sanctuary.
Katherine Kramer - (Katherine's facebook page) is a singer/songwriter planning to spend several months in Zimbabwe this Summer. We recorded an EP which has helped her raise funds for her mission work.
Abbye West Pates - (www.abbyewestpates.com) Abbye is a great singer/songwriter along the lines of Sara Groves and Patti Griffin. We're working on her first full length album right now! It's going to be great. We're shooting for an early August release.
Brian Mulder - (www.brianmulder.net) I recorded a CD for Brian a few years ago and we just started on a new EP! Brian also makes the best cajon hand drums in the world (www.jouerdrums.com)
Matthew Clark - (www.matthewclark.net) That's me. I've got a lot of songs of my own that I'm looking forward to getting recorded soon. Right now, I'm finishing up some worship songs and after that I've got a new folk rock storytelling album planned.
5. Touring: In the Fall there'll be some touring! If you'd be willing to host a house concert (more info here) let me know!
Hope that you're all doing well. Here are a few encouraging books that have helped me lately to trust Jesus and keep hopeful and steady from day to day: The Way by E. Stanley Jones, The Epic of Eden by Sandra Richter, and The Book of God by Walt Wangerin Jr. (I recommend the audio book since Wangerin himself reads and he gets really into the characters!)
Thanks, matthew
