SONG IN PROGRESS: Come Tell Your Story

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south.

Psalm 107: 2-3

This morning at Family Prayer I opened up to Psalm 107.  We remembered together where we had been when we tried to make our own way in the world apart from God.
We remembered together how He heard our cries and helped us and continues our healing even now. We have much to be thankful for. We sang and prayed for each other in the middle of the living room on Malcomb Street.

We had our coffees and passed through the doorway on to our workdays on a sunny Memphis Summer morning. Psalm 107 has stayed with me. So I've been working on a song based on it most of today. I thought I'd finished it, then I totally scrapped the music and started all over again. Here's what I've got so far, you can hear it by clicking on the play button below:

For all your years of desert wanderings
The restless days of thirst and hungering
Out cried your soul for your life ebbed away
Oh how you hungered, Oh how you hungered for home

We were as slaves bound by our blundering
Duly encaged, we chose our sundering
Out cried our souls from the graves we had carved
God broke in weakness, almighty weakness, our chains

CHORUS
Come tell your story, all you redeemed of the Lord
All you he rescued out of the grip of the foe

Blind I became, haunted in slumbering
Hell warmed my bed, fruit born of grumbling
Out cried my soul for the nightmare to end
God woke the sleeper, clothed by my Keeper in light

Some crafted ships, sails raised in thundering
Mutineers all, unfit for captaining
Out cried their souls, all courage had drowned
Depth's only Master commanded his peace, be still

CHORUS
Come tell your story, all you redeemed of the Lord
All you he rescued out of the grip of the foe
