"Simeon's Moment" by Ron DiCianni.
Merry Christmas, first of all! After spending the last four weeks in the midwinter waiting of Advent, Emmanuel has come to us. We waited for Christmas, now it has come and continues to unfold in all its implications as we move toward Epiphany- and on into the rest of the true-storied year that makes and reminds us of who we really are.
I particularly enjoyed singing "Hark! The herald angels sing" this Christmas Eve at midnight. Listen! the angel armies are announcing a great mystery - veiled in flesh the Godhead see, hail the incarnate deity, pleased as man with man to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel!
No one has ever seen God, but God the Son has tabernacled among his creations, you and I, has finally fed freely our aching and hungry eyes. I love how New Testament writers emphasize that they are reporting what they have seen with their eyes, heard with their ears, touched with their hands - this they announce and report so that we too may have fellowship with the Father and our joy completed. (1 John 1)
Last night, my brother Sam and I talked till 2 am about the world to come, the world without end. There is no longing in this world, in my body or mind that is not, in actuality, a longing to be with Jesus. He is truly the joy of every longing heart.
